Guys, it’s still spooky season, and I didn’t quite get enough of that sort of chat last week. Merriam-Webster defines the term ‘monster’ in many ways, but chief among them are “an animal of strange or terrifying shape,” “one unusually large for its kind,” “an animal or plant of abnormal form or structure,” “one who deviates from normal or acceptable behavior or character,” “a threatening force.” The reason there’s so many definitions is because there’s so many ways in which we interpret monsters. A ‘Monster’ is not narrowly defined by it's aesthetics. It is by its very nature unordinary, unnatural and malignant within. Monsters defy all other forms of categorization and convention. Monsters are so rare they’re almost impossible to imagine, so therein lies their predatory advantage. You can’t believe they’re right there in front of your face even when it’s happening. They are the residents of nightmares, and so we tell ourselves they are not real. Well, real or not, singular or collective, it doesn’t matter folks, because we’re staying on theme this week to discuss our Top 5 Monsters.
