Everyone knows the story of Aladdin. Everyone’s familiar with the concept of Genie’s and their wish-granting powers and they’ve considered what they would do if they had a genie. Today we’re going to talk about our top 5 genie wishes. That’s right, we’re gonna shed off the classic 3 wish limitation and go with 5 wishes because this is after all the Top 5 Podcast. We’re each gonna pick 5 wishes and standard rules apply: you can’t wish for someone’s death, you can’t make someone fall in love, and you can’t wish to bring Harambe back from death. Oh and also you can’t ask for more wishes, you’re already getting five. We’ll likely have some crossover but today for the sake of conversation we’re doing the old Jackass Genie Trope. Think of the rules of Bedazzled. You remember that movie, right? Brendan Fraser makes all these deals with the Devil played by Elizabeth Hurley who gives him what he wants, but there’s always a huge catch that he didn’t consider which serves as the ultimate reminder “be careful what you wish for—you just might get it!” In other words one person’s going to say their wish and the other two are going to shit all over it. Life is pretty hard. If we aren’t trying to avoid the next global pandemic, we are worrying about ways to cut out lattes and avocado toast in order to purchase a home in this historical housing market. On top of all of that, we have been lied to our whole lives! Sitting too close to the TV makes you go blind, alligators live in the sewers of NYC, if you’re an undercover cop you have to tell me, and breakfast is the most important meal of the day. These are the facts that our parents instilled upon us from adolescence that shaped who we are today. But they were incorrect. Through time and science we have seen far too many common misconceptions proven false. So we are here to set the record straight. We are discussing our Top 5 Common Myths. Science Fiction means so many things all at once. It is a catalyst for creativity and inquiry, and through its creation of alternate realities, it serves as a mirror to reflect where we are today. The setting is itself a main character in any Sci-Fi story as it is the all-important binding element that makes the story possible. A Sci-Fi show set a few centuries in the future would undoubtedly have to project our path forward and explain how we got to that point, whether it’s a positive view of the future, or a totally dystopian one. Or perhaps you like a book with a retro-futuristic setting with an alternative history like Steampunk blending the Victorian Age with fantastic clockwork machines. Or it could depart from anything remotely related to realism in its embrace of science-wizardry. Today we are discussing our Top 5 Sci-Fi Settings.
